The Department of Education (DepEd) is preparing to strengthen the preventive drug education component in Science and Health classes of Grade 4 students and onward, Education secretary Leonor Briones told lawmakers on Friday.

Briones said "real life lesson via alternative learning methods" will be provided to students as part of the Duterte administration's intensified campaign against illegal drugs.

The government made sure that its awareness campaign against the perils of narcotics will not only linger inside school premises as anti-illegal drugs advertisements were launched Friday afternoon.

“The advertisements will target the Filipino families who might be dealing with problems caused by drug abuse. (The message is) all hope is not lost, the time to end illegal drug-dependence is now,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said.

Aside from teaching the youth about the administration's war against illegal drugs, the DepEd also wants to strengthen school curricula on other pressing issues including disaster preparedness, environmental awareness, teen pregnancy, and sex education and teenage pregnancy.
